SC secured Muslim women’s rights post-divorce in 2001

In Danial Latifi v Union of India in 2001, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutional validity of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986. It ruled that Muslim husbands must make fair and reasonable provision for their ex-wives beyond the iddat period, ensuring financial security and justice for divorced Muslim women.
