CJI BR Gavai has reportedly agreed to hear an application seeking directions to the Centre to restore the statehood of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on August 8. The plea, filed by a teacher, Zahoor Ahmed Bhat, and an activist, Khurshaid Ahmad Malik, argues that the non-restoration of statehood in a time-bound manner violates the idea of federalism.
