Sreeraman, a tribal farmer, has developed low-cost devices to protect crops from wild animals in Kerala. A class fourth dropout with no formal training, he has built a water-powered alarm whose constant sound tricks animals into thinking humans are present. He also built a powered torch that swings in the wind, scattering light beams to scare nocturnal animals.
