Scientists have developed early-stage embryos by using human skin cells to make functional eggs in a breakthrough for infertility treatments. For the proof-of-concept study, published in Nature Communications, the nucleus of the skin cell was transplanted into a donor egg, which was stripped of its own nucleus. The 82 oocytes produced were then fertilised with sperm via IVF, researchers said.
