Scientists observe Parkinson's protein punch holes in brain cells
short by Neeraja Nath / on 08 Sep 2025,Monday
Scientists from Aarhus University observed that a protein linked to Parkinson's disease, alpha-synuclein, attacks neurons by puncturing their protective membranes. Once these holes form, harmful substances leak inside, disrupting the cell's function and leading to its eventual death instead of instant collapse. The study offers new perspective on gradual onset of symptoms in Parkinson's patients.
