In a study published in journal Trends in Cognitive Sciences, researchers discovered that when the mind goes blank, brain activity mirrors patterns seen in deep sleep. Using brain scans, scientists found synchronised signals similar to slow-wave sleep during these moments. Scientists said such episodes occur during 5%-20% of waking hours and may serve as brief resets for the brain.
