Scientists at Chalmers University have turned wheat straw and oat husks into fabric using soda pulping, a process that breaks down plant material into fibres using sodium hydroxide. The fibres, thus formed, were then washed and spun into a material "very similar" to cotton. Researchers say they hope this eco-friendly method can reduce reliance on synthetic, fossil-based textiles.
