Scientists watch atom's nucleus flip in real time for 1st time
short by Neeraja Nath / on 07 Sep 2025,Sunday
Researchers at Netherlands' Delft University of Technology observed an atom's magnetic nucleus flipping its spin state in real time for first time. They tracked nuclear 'spin' via electrons in the same atom through the needle of scanning tunnelling microscope and found it stayed stable for several seconds. The study is a step forward for quantum sensing at the atomic scale.
