On October 15, Sean Abbott of the New South Wales became the first cricketer to be injury-substituted in a Sheffield Shield game. The new regulations allow teams to make a like-for-like change in case of injury. Abbott split the webbing in his bowling hand, and was replaced by Charlie Stobo. He will now serve a mandatory 12-day "stand-down period".
