Padma Bhushan awardee Sharda Sinha, who passed away on Tuesday, faced resistance from her mother-in-law for singing after her marriage. She permitted only bhajan singing at home but objected to singing outside. Sinha, in an earlier interview, recalled that her mother-in-law refused to eat for two to three days in protest after her father-in-law permitted her to sing bhajans outside.
