The Supreme Court has ordered CBI to investigate the September 27 stampede at actor-politician Vijay's rally that led to 41 deaths in Tamil Nadu's Karur. The apex court said the incident, which has "shaken the national conscience", deserves a "fair and impartial investigation". It also set up a three-member committee headed by retired Justice Ajay Rastogi to monitor the probe.
