Scientists are studying the freshwater apple snail, which can completely regrow its eyes, in hope of helping humans with eye injuries. Human and snail eyes share many anatomical and genetic traits. Using genome-editing techniques, researchers are investigating the genetic and molecular mechanisms behind the snail's ability to regenerate its eye, aiming to one day restore damaged human vision.
