Chetan Bhagat, who wrote 'Five Point Someone', revealed he agreed to ₹1 lakh contract with ₹10 lakh bonus in 2005 for its film adaptation '3 Idiots'. He said, "I was pretty new...I didn't know [it] would even ever be made...It was an unconventional story." He added, "It sounds small compared to what film made, but it's fair for the situation."
