Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance of student suicides at IIT Kharagpur (West Bengal) and Greater Noida's Sharda University. Observing that "something is seriously wrong with education system", it sought a report from both institutes and warned them of contempt proceedings if wrongdoing is found. Recently, a BDS student died by suicide at Sharda University, blaming two teachers of harassment.
