Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of detained climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, questioned India's freedom following a police crackdown in Ladakh after protests demanding statehood turned violent. She said, "Is India really free?" Comparing the situation to 1857, she said a dozen administrators are now misusing 2,400 Ladakhi police to oppress and torture 3 lakh Ladakhis under MHA orders.
