South India has reported nearly half of all suspected chikungunya cases in the country over the past five years, according to data from the National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC). Between 2021 and 2025, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Puducherry together recorded 3,93,151 cases that is almost 48.2 percent of the total cases in India.
