Former BJP MLA Raj Purohit accused Congress of "overlooking" Shah Rukh Khan for the National Award in the past. He said, "Many felt Congress overlooked SRK all these years. BJP never judged the actor on basis of religion, but recognised his talent and performance." In response, Congress MLA Bhai Jagtap said, "The only motive behind honouring SRK is the elections."
