The Karnataka government told the Karnataka High Court that the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru occurred after 'free entry' was announced. A lawyer representing the state said that the announcement was made by the franchise. As many as 11 people were killed in the stampede and over 50 people were injured.
