Researchers at University College London showed how amino acids could have activated through thioesters and combined with RNA in water to create life in Earth-like conditions. This suggested how protein synthesis occurred on early Earth about four billion years ago without the need for enzymes. They added that these reactions could've taken place in pools or lakes on Earth.
