Researchers from Johns Hopkins University have identified over 200 types of misfolded proteins in ageing rats with cognitive decline. Unlike in healthy rats, these proteins lost proper shape and they evade the brain's cleanup systems, impair memory and disrupt brain function. The study could lead to new targets for treatment and prevention of conditions like Alzheimer's and Dementia.
