The National Science Foundation's Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope has captured the smallest magnetic loops ever observed in the Sun's corona. Averaging about 21 km across, the smallest loops were imaged during a powerful X-class solar flare. Coronal loops are glowing plasma arcs shaped by magnetic field lines.
