Sweden has officially joined NATO after completing its accession process, ending decades of post-World War II neutrality. This comes amid growing concerns about Russian aggression in Europe following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Sweden's membership had been held up due to objections raised by NATO members Turkey and Hungary. NATO now counts 32 countries among its members.
