An assistant teacher was suspended after allegedly beating at least 31 students with a bamboo stick for not touching her feet as a customary gesture of respect following morning prayer at a government school in Odisha. Several students were injured and one even suffered a fracture due to the incident. The teacher had apparently arrived late to school.
