A 17-year-old boy in Thiruvananthapuram was diagnosed with Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM) after swimming at Akkulam Tourist Village. The facility was immediately closed, and water samples were collected. The infection is caused by Naegleria fowleri, a deadly amoeba that enters the brain through the nose, typically via contact with warm or untreated freshwater sources.
