Abortions in India have jumped 67 percent over five years, according to official data. Telangana saw a dramatic 917.6 percent spike, from 1,578 cases in 2020-21 to 16,059 in 2024-25, making it South India's leader in the surge. All five major southern states, too, have reported substantial increases in abortion numbers.
