Bhakna village, located just 7 km from the international border in Amritsar, is believed to have a rich historical significance, with evidence of human settlements emerging from a "theh" (a big mound). This ancient village, where Nanakshahi bricks were used for construction, finds rich mention in Punjabi folk songs. Once a centre of higher learning, the village was called Kashi.
