In the wake of the second round of Russia-Ukraine peace talks held in Istanbul on June 2, US envoy to Turkiye, Tom Barrack, said that President Donald Trump appears to be "at the end of his rope". Barrack added that any summit involving Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy must be "meaningful and yield substantial outcomes".
