Police arrested TVK's Karur West District Secretary, VP Mathiyazhagan, and Karur town functionary Paun Raj in connection with the stampede at TVK chief Vijay's rally that killed 41 people. Raj had arranged flagpoles and flex banners for Vijay's campaign and had allegedly provided shelter to Mathiyazhagan, who is one of the three TVK office bearers named in the FIR.
