The Himalayan region, including Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, could experience two major earthquakes of magnitude 8.8, a study stated. Analysis of satellite-based geodetic data, showed the higher Himalayas are rising 5-8mm per year. This has led to stress being accumulated along the Main Himalayan Thrust over the last 500-700 years, which could result in a massive earthquake.
