The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill, 2025, with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a ₹10 lakh fine for conversions using force or promise of marriage. The bill also proposes 7-14 years in jail and at least ₹1 lakh fine for mass conversions. It'll be tabled in the state assembly's monsoon session.
