British scientists have warned against a new, highly contagious COVID-19 variant, Nimbus, which could spark a wave of infections this summer. The strain, N.B.1.8.1, is descended from the already super virulent Omicron and has triggered a surge in cases across Southeast Asia. Data from the UK Health Security Agency shows 13 cases of Nimbus have already been detected in England.
