A United Nations report seeking ways to improve efficiency revealed that "UN reports aren't widely read", said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The Secretariat produced 1,100 reports in 2024, up 20% since 1990, he noted. "The top 5% of reports are downloaded over 5,500 times...and downloading doesn't necessarily mean reading," said Guterres, adding, "Meanwhile, the cost is staggering."
