Uttar Pradesh government is planning to initiate grassroots environmental efforts by setting up ‘Green Chaupals’ to boost rural forest cover. This model will establish ecological committees in every gram panchayat, comprising members including elected representatives and educators. Each committee will be mandated to maintain 'Gram Van' village forests and manage 'Gram Harit Nidhi' green funds.
