Researchers from India found that urban female House Sparrows put more parental effort (feeding, incubation) than rural ones, but their young have much lower survival rates. Fledging success dropped sharply to 41.2% in cities, primarily due to nest predation (3x higher) & abandonment. The study shows that besides increased effort to overcome urban stressors, better habitat planning is required.
