Lee Jong-seok, South Korea's nominee for its spy agency director, said the US would launch a nuclear strike on North Korea if Pyongyang carried out a nuclear attack on the South. North Korea has long pursued a nuclear programme and is believed to have stockpiled fissile materials for atomic weapons. Lee is nominated to lead South Korea's National Intelligence Service.
