The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has welcomed the Indian government's decision to temporarily remove the 11% import duty on cotton from August 19 to September 30. The move is expected to improve access to "cheaper, high-quality" US cotton and provide "short-term relief to Indian textile exporters" amid "rising domestic fibre costs and global competition", the agency said.
