Vietnam has officially abolished its two-child policy to tackle its declining birth rates, which will enable couples to freely decide how many children they want and when to have them. The two-child policy was introduced in 1988. Vietnam's total fertility rate fell from 2.11 in 2021 to a record low of 1.91 children per woman in December 2023.
