After the landslide on the Mata Vaishno Devi route claimed over 30 lives, an eyewitness, Ramesh Singh, said it was like a "loud thunderclap" or a "bomb blast" from above. "First, the upper shed fell, then the second one, with a gap of about three-four seconds," Singh, a 'palkiwalla', recalled. He added, "There were about 35–40 people [in the shed]."
