The James Webb Space Telescope has revealed that the universe's earliest galaxies were far from orderly. A Cambridge-led study of over 250 young galaxies found them to be turbulent, clumpy, and unstable, challenging earlier views of early galactic structure. The findings show how galaxies evolved from chaotic beginnings into the organised spirals seen today.
