'Sin or demerit goods' are items considered to have negative impacts on an individual's health and the society. These are likely to be taxed at 40% after Centre's proposed GST reforms. Such items include gutkha, pan masala, cigarettes and other tobacco products. Centre had earlier reportedly proposed to put luxury cars and online gaming in the 40% tax category.
