Under new labour codes, all employees now have a statutory right to minimum wages and a new definition of 'wages' has mandated that basic pay be at least 50% of total remuneration. Gratuity eligibility period has been reduced to one year, and formal appointment letters are now mandatory. Gig and platform workers have also been included in social security's ambit.
