Volcanologist Arianna Soldati told Scientific American Magazine that a volcano can erupt, even if it hasn't in 10,000 years, if there are still conditions for magma to form. Scientist Juliet Biggs said satellite images suggest Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano recently emitted lava. Hayli Gubbi sits in a zone where African and Arabian tectonic plates are pulling apart at 0.4-0.6 inches/year.
