Statues at intersections often follow the equestrian statue code, under which the position of the horse's legs signifies how the warrior died. All legs on the ground means death due to natural causes, while one raised leg means the warrior was injured in battle but died later. Both forelegs raised (rearing) means the warrior died while fighting on the battlefield.
