US President Donald Trump has alternative laws to impose tariffs, but it has limitations. The Trade Act of 1974 restricts tariffs to 15% which can be applied for only 150 days on nations with which US has a huge trade deficit. Trump could also invoke Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to impose tariffs but that needs a Commerce Department investigation.
