What happens when two supermassive black holes collide?
short by Neeraja Nath / on 16 Aug 2025,Saturday
When two supermassive black holes collide, they release gravitational waves in the fabric of spacetime, as predicted by Albert Einstein in 1916, along with light, mainly in the form of X-rays. The collision creates a larger black hole, more massive than either of its parents. After the collision, jets of particles may be launched at the speed of light.
