A joint demat account is co-owned by up to three people, allowing shared control of securities. It can operate in either "jointly" (all must approve) or "any one holder" mode. Joint holders are legal co-owners, unlike nominees, who step in only if all holders pass away and don't automatically inherit assets unless they're legal heirs.
