A mysterious brown 'ribbon', stretching 8,850 kilometres, is spreading from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, alarming scientists. Identified as the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt (GASB), scientists attributed its spread to warmer waters and pollution. It can trap boats and fish, impacting the marine life. It also blocks sunlight from reaching coral reefs and seagrass beds.
