Bacterium Bartonella henselae, transmitted through the scratch, bite, or saliva of an infected cat, can cause a zoonotic infection called Cat Scratch Disease. The condition primarily manifests as swollen lymph nodes near the site of the scratch, fever, and fatigue, according to Dr PN Renjen, a Delhi-based neurologist. However, it can also lead to encephalopathy, a brain dysfunction condition.
