India is witnessing high corneal blindness cases in people under 30 years of age, Dr Rajesh Sinha, Professor of Ophthalmology at AIIMS Delhi, said. Once largely confined to the elderly, this condition manifests when the transparent front part of the eyeball, the cornea, becomes cloudy or scarred due to infections, trauma, or nutritional deficiencies. Over 20,000 cases are recorded annually.
