The Drag Reduction System (DRS) was introduced in F1 to increase overtaking opportunities during races. Before DRS, cars struggled to pass due to "dirty air" from the car ahead. When DRS is activated, a flap on the car's rear wing opens to reduce aerodynamic drag and downforce. The system is controlled by the driver via buttons on the steering wheel.
